Your Active Participation

Families who choose Rosemary Birthing Home for your prenatal, birth, and postpartum care are expected to assume a full share of responsibility for their own health, and participate actively in every phase of the childbearing experience.  Research has shown that the more families know about pregnancy, birth, and baby care, the more comfortable and confident they are, thereby reducing risks and complications.  You and your partner or primary support person are strongly encouraged to attend the complete, comprehensive childbirth education programs offered here at the birthing home.

Enrollment and Informed Consent

We suggest that expectant mothers enroll for care at the birthing home as early as possible during pregnancy.  However, transferring your care to the birthing home may be acceptable later in the pregnancy. In this situation, you will need to bring your records for review during a scheduled consultation with the birthing home midwives.

During your first visit, the midwife will discuss the consent forms with you.  The purpose of the consent forms is to inform you of the benefits and risks associated with using the birthing home program.  A birthing home is designed and equipped to manage the events and variations of normal pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.  Our facility is licensed by the State of Florida and maintains high standards using state and national guidelines for birthing centers; it is a part of total quality health care within the community.  When necessary, clients may be transferred to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Your Financial Arrangements

All clients are asked to pay a one time, non-refundable admin/registration fee of $250.00. Rosemary Birthing Home charges a comprehensive package fee ($6,000.00) for low risk healthy expectant mothers. This fee includes the following:

  • All prenatal visits,
  • Required pregnancy and childbirth classes at the birthing home,
  • Labor and birth at the birthing home / your home,
  • 4 postpartum visits (1-2 days, 3-5 days, 2 weeks, and 6 weeks).

Lab work and ultrasounds will be additional costs.  Our office staff will explain such additional fees to you.  Rosemary Birthing Home care is covered at varying levels by most insurance plans. You will be informed of expenses which you are responsible to pay.  If you have insurance, all labs and ultrasounds will be billed directly to the insurance company by the provider of those services unless your insurance company directs us to do otherwise.  Ultimately, you are responsible for all charges.

If a hospital transfer is necessary, the client is responsible for all hospital charges and any additional fees charged by a physician.  Ambulance or other complication expenses are also your responsibility.  If you transfer your care to another provider, you are responsible for any balance that you owe to Rosemary Birthing Home.

Our office staff will provide these policies in detail and answer your questions as needed.  Depending on your method of payment, a deposit of $500.00 may be required on your first visit.  If you are on a self-pay plan, the full fee of $6,000.00 must be paid by your 32nd week of pregnancy.  If necessary, we can assist you in formulating a payment plan that meets these requirements.  A discount will be given if you make payment in full by your second visit.  Rosemary Birthing Home believes that all women deserve equal access to care.  We will accept Medicaid and most insurance plans. Please see our Insurance and Payment Information for more details.
